Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and is confident the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

NYPD released security footage Monday of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday near the famous arena and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn said Boyd has occupied his thinking “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife are new parents to a newborn.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn remarked. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

Boyd came to New York as a new signing in spring and was projected as a significant contributor of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on 2 August and had to be helped off.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in the spring.
