Iran Claims Assault on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Regional Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an zone in the area of the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the US has remained silent.
Airspace Engagements
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates stated that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with notable success and destroyed a series of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
