Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care
Prosecutors have stated that a ex- doctor has been charged with committing assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.
Details of the Serious Charges
The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – comprising some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.
A deputy chief CPS official said, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”
Scope of the Police Inquiry
The charges come after what police described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported assaults at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and Russells Hall hospital.
Spencer is scheduled to appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.
Breakdown of Offences
Prosecutors outline the 45 sexual offences comprise:
- 15 counts of assault.
- Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
- 9 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
- Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
- 1 count of attempting to assault by penetration.
