One of the original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, announced that he plans to personally create the controversial product within an individual collection showcasing causes the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Involving Founders versus Parent Company

This latest development deepens the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company along with their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Support

The entrepreneur stated through an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions regarding naming options and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that closely resemble the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Developments

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever selling the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company that was first established several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes and Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen indicated that he plans to develop other ice cream flavors that address issues that the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at the company recently, following decades with the organization, mentioning worries regarding how its independence was compromised after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to keep working within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve the social mission, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
